How to Run a Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser

Raise money for your team, school, or cause

A squares fundraiser is one of the simplest ways to raise money around a big game: sell the 100 squares on a football squares grid, keep a share for your cause, and pay the rest out as prizes. Everyone knows how it works, one board can raise hundreds of dollars, and it takes minutes to set up.

Booster clubs, youth teams, PTAs, and charities run these every season for the classic football squares game — here's how to run yours step by step.

Step 1 — Set your square price

Pick a price your crowd will actually pay — $5, $10, or $20 a square are the most common. At $10 a square, a full 100-square board collects $1,000. Decide the price before you open the board and keep it the same for everyone.

Step 2 — Choose your payout split

Announce up front how much goes to the cause and how much comes back as prizes. Popular splits are 50/50 (half to the cause, half in prizes) and 75/25 for causes people really rally behind. Prizes are usually paid per quarter — for example 20% of the prize pool for each of the first three quarters and 40% for the final score.

Example: $10 squares, 50/50 split

  • Board sells out: $1,000 collected
  • Your cause keeps $500
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd quarter winners: $100 each
  • Final score winner: $200

Step 3 — Sell the board

Share the link everywhere your supporters already are: the team group chat, the school newsletter, the break room. Running the board online means people claim squares by name from their phone, you can watch it fill in real time, and nobody has to chase a paper sheet around. Squares tend to sell fastest in the final week before the game, so open the board early but expect the late rush.

Step 4 — Draw numbers and pay out

Once the board is full, randomly assign the numbers 0–9 to the rows and columns — after the squares are sold, never before, so every square has an equal chance. At the end of each quarter, the last digit of each team's score picks the winning square. Announce winners promptly and pay out the way you promised — that's what brings everyone back next year.

Ready to raise? Set up your board online and share the link — picks, numbers, and winners are handled for you.
